The Hemi engine was made famous in the 1960s but was dropped due to fuel and emission restrictions in the 1970s. The specs on the 2005 5.7 Hemi vary depending on the vehicle it is placed in The original 5.7L Hemi introduction in 2003 featured a horsepower number that matched its displacement in cubic inches exactly, 345. This one to one ratio of horsepower to cubic inches is something that was also common in the original Hemi versions, although the horsepower calculation used then was different. The 2003 version of the 5.7L had a peak torque measurement of 375 lb-ft at 4400 RPM.

After a long hiatus, Chrysler reintroduced the Hemi to its engine portfolio for the 2003 model year. It's first application would be the Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup models, however the engine would find homes in many Chrysler products beginning in the 2004 model year. The engine is and has been produced at Chrysler's Saltillo Engine Plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. The 90 degree pushrod V-8 features hemispherical shaped combustion chambers, providing improved breathing of the cylinder head during the intake and exhaust strokes resulting from the canted angle of the valves. If you are at an office or shared network, you can ask the network administrator to run a scan across the network looking for misconfigured or infected devices.
Torque is the engine's twisting power; this directly affects initial acceleration. The 5.7-liter engine produces 390 foot-pounds of torque at 4,000 RPM when installed in the Magnum and 375 foot-pounds of torque at 4,200 RPM in the Ram 2500 and the Ram 3500.The 5.7L Hemi introduced in 2003 was a revival of a great Chrysler engine that was previously obsoleted in the early 70’s. Bringing this engine back has proved to be a great success, clearly seen by the run of 6 Ward’s 10 Best Engine awards between 2003 and 2009.
The 5.7-liter Hemi has a maximum oil capacity of seven quarts. The coolant/anti-freeze capacity, inside the engine, is 18.7 quarts.Any die-hard Mopar fanatic knows the prowess of the Hemi engine. The Chrysler engineers really did their homework when they designed cylinder heads utilizing hemispherical combustion chambers. As it turns out, the design created the most powerful internal combustion engines ever. The next time you see an NHRA drag racing event, take a look at the top two classes of Top Fuel Dragster and Fuel Funny Car. Regardless of the sponsor of the car or the body on the car, the powerplant is a Hemi. That's right, John Force's Mustang Funny Car is powered by a Hemi with the same design as the 426 version introduced by Chrysler in 1964, albeit with a few enhancements. Why the Hemi? It's the only engine that makes enough power to be competitive in drag racing's top classes. Does Chrysler's newest version of this engine live up to its name? If judged by horsepower and torque ratings alone, the answer is yesWhether you like the styling of Chrysler's new product line or not, the Hemi engine is a powerplant to contend with. The combination of the hemispherical cylinder head design with an advanced oiling system, and modern ignition and fuel-injection technology makes this engine a real winner. It's no wonder so many people are transplanting this motor into their show and race cars. Mopar Performance is already committed to the 5.7 Hemi as its latest crate motor, available in both injected and carbureted versions. We look for the aftermarket to support this engine as well, and look forward to seeing how much power can be extracted from this potent little motor. Plus, dude, it's a Hemi. Sweeeet! When it comes to engines, we know the best way to see what makes them tick is to go inside and take a look. I must say, we were impressed by what we found in the latest version of the most powerful production V-8 in the world. The Hemi 5.7-liter is a V-8 engine built for power. Because of this, consumers look at the horsepower number first. The Magnum is rated at 340 horsepower, the Ram 2500 is rated at 335 horsepower, and the Ram 3500 is rated at 345 horsepower. This engine design has lots of power and with the hemispherical design along with VCT and MDS offering increased efficiency, this engine is consistently one of the most popular. In fact, this engine made the Ward’s 10 Best 2003 through 2007, and then again in 2009 with the modified engine.
Let's look at a horsepower-per-cubic-inch comparison of the engines. The 5.7 Hemi is 345 ci and the '05 version makes 345 hp (as rated in the Ram 1500), or exactly one horsepower-per-cubic-inch. In comparison, the 425hp, 426ci Hemi makes .997 hp-per-cubic-inch-making the two engines nearly equal in power output per-cubic-inch. The 6.1L (372ci) Hemi available in SRT models is not as tame as its little brother, making an amazing 425 hp, a whopping 1.14 hp-per-cubic-inch. The 6.1 Hemi is the hands-down winner. When drivability is considered, the new Hemi is also a winner. The 426 Hemi, while known for high-end horsepower, was notoriously low on bottom end torque, not so with the new version. The new 5.7 Hemi not only makes 390 lb-ft of peak torque, it also makes over 300 lb-ft from 1,200-rpm up-giving it the best of both worlds. Driving a 5.7 Hemi-powered car or truck is like launching a powerful 440 torque-monster (well, almost) with a smooth transition to the top-end Hemi power. The net result is a vehicle that marries great power with excellent drivability. We know what you're thinking, the new Hemi engine sounds powerful, but can I afford to feed it? Thanks to some pretty incredible engineering, the answer is yes. For the third generation Dodge Ram, two different 8-cylinder engine choices are available. The larger displacement of the two being the 5.7 liter Hemi. Choosing which 8-cylinder engine is best for your needs will come down to several critical aspects. The 5.7 Hemi engine has substantially more.. 2006 Hemi 5.7 Oil Capacity. Jump to Latest Follow. I told them that I noticed that the owner's manual for the truck says that the 5.7L Hemi takes 7 quarts of oil and that the statement said that I was only charged for 6....4 quarts for the gallon plus the 2 additional that I paid for per quart This engine is available for purchase in several Dodge models, including the Ram, Durango, Magnum, Charger, and Challenger. The engine is also available in the Chrysler 300/300c, Chrysler Aspen, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Jeep Commander.Enough about theory, we needed to look inside the new Hemi engine to see what really makes it work. It turns out, our friends over at Crane Cams in Daytona, Florida, had just what we needed-a 5.7 Hemi they were using for some research and development. They were nice enough to let us come over and dissect the Hemi for a first-hand look inside. We think you'll be pleased at what we found.
The Hemi engine uses cast iron block to go along with its aluminum cylinder head. The intake manifold is plastic. The pistons also use an alloy eutectic design for increased strength. While we really doubt the 5.7 Hemi-powered full-size Dodge truck would smoke a front engine digger (even with the chute deployed), the 345hp rating did pique our interest. We know modern fuel injection and electronics can make a relatively small displacement V-8 far more efficient than a carbureted.. The 5.7-liter Hemi is a 90-degree, liquid-cooled, V-type engine. It has 16 push rod-style, overhead valves, commonly abbreviated as "16V OHV."
my 2004 durango limited hemi blew the same way, 7 months ago , i have 110k on the engine. always mantained at a dodge dealership. i went to start it in I have a 2005 Durango with Hemi. It is 5 years old with just under 55,000 miles and has been well maintained. About a year ago I had similar loss of.. .The 5.7L Hemi underwent many changes for the 2009 model year, including a higher compression ratio, active intake manifold, variable camshaft timing, and a multi-displacement system (MDS). The active intake runner system allows the engine to utilize short and long runners in the intake manifold. To increase low end performance, the short intake runners are blocked off and air flows through the long intake runners at low engine speeds. At higher engine speeds, the intake manifold opens up the short runners for improved top end performance. The multi-displacement system deactivates cylinders 1, 4, 6, and 7 under low load conditions to improve fuel economy. Superior to all rebuilt Dodge 5.7 Hemi engines because: We install 100% new pressed in valve seats to stop seats from dropping and damaging engines. We have eliminated the oil sludge issue by utilizing a newly engineered piston which brings the combustion chamber temperature back under control The 5.7-liter Hemi is equipped with a multi-displacement system (MDS). This technology electronically and mechanically shuts down four of the cylinders when they're not needed, typically at highway speeds. The Magnum is the only Hemi-equipped vehicle tested by the EPA for fuel economy; it gets 15 miles per gallon in the city and 23 MPG on the highway. Dodge recommends using 89-octane fuel in the Hemi, but 87 octane is acceptable. The name Hemi is originated from the design of the combustion chamber and cylinder heads. The hemispherical design provides an efficient combustion and reduced heat loss. Although the Hemi design or a slight variant is used by other manufacturers, the marketing name Hemi indicates an engine built by Chrysler. The 5.7L Hemi engine was the first Hemi engine produced with the re-birth of the hemi engine family. The Hemi engine was previously available from the 50s-70s, but the 5.7L Hemi marked the re-introduction of this popular engine.

This engine is available for purchase in several Dodge models, including the Ram, Durango, Magnum, Charger, and Challenger. The engine is also available in the Chrysler 300/300c, Chrysler.. . The remaining four cylinders now work a little harder as they are both propelling the vehicle and spinning four extra pistons and connecting rods, and the net result is a 20-percent gain in economy, giving the new Hemi-equipped vehicle V-6 or even four-cylinder economy, while retaining its horsepower and torque numbers. Does it work? While we didn't see 25 mpg as the window sticker on our Charger advertised, we did find it easy to average 20 mpg during a combination of highway and city driving. We're sure that 25 mpg is attainable, just not with our lead feet. Adding to the overall economy of the package is the fact that as a function of the detonation-resistant Hemi head, the engine runs great on the recommended mid-grade fuel and does not require premium. We'll use the 20 or so extra pennies per gallon to save up for a cold-air kit and maybe an exhaust upgrade.
The Chrysler Hemi engines, known by the trademark Hemi, are a series of I6 and V8 gasoline engines built by Chrysler with hemispherical combustion chambers I have a 2008 Dodge Ram hemi with the 5.7 engine. I need a new power steering pressure hose and I found one online but it says that it is for a 2005 dodge ram with a 5.7 HEMI engine. I went to the dodge website to look for the part and it says that i read more The engine's greatest disadvantage, at least for truck applications, is its sharp torque curve that peaks at relatively high engine speeds. This characteristic lacks the low end torque favored in applications where towing and hauling needs are frequent and requires operating at higher engine speeds to realize the engine's full performance. On the contrary, the engine produces respectable peak horsepower and torque considering it displaces a mere 345 cubic inches. To help with emissions and address flame propagation concerns inherent of most engines with hemispherical combustion chambers, the 5.7L utilizes a dual spark plug design with a secondary spark plug firing at the start of the engine's power stroke.
